EPBD Directive Mandates Charging Readiness in All New Buildings

The EU’s revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is a landmark piece of legislation that requires all new residential and non-residential buildings to be “zero-emission ready” by 2030. A critical component of this directive is the mandatory installation of charging points in all new buildings and in major renovations of existing ones. Specifically, every new residential building must have at least one electric vehicle charging point per parking space. For non-residential buildings, the requirement is one charging point for every five parking spaces, rising to 100% coverage by 2030. This ensures that the built environment is fully prepared for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.

Eprim’s ISO 15118-compliant PLC modules are the perfect solution for integrating smart charging capabilities into new buildings. Our modules enable seamless Plug & Charge functionality, allowing EV drivers to simply plug in their vehicle and start charging automatically, without the need for an app or card payment. This not only enhances user convenience but also optimizes load management for building operators. By integrating Eprim’s technology from the outset, construction companies and developers can ensure that their projects meet the EPBD’s strict requirements and are equipped with future-proof, user-friendly charging infrastructure.
